Position Summary: KEY DIMENSIONS:

MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS POST:


Using the key dimensions described above, ensure that policies, good practice and audit outcomes are translated to practice. Work with Senior Nurse Managers to close the theory – practice gap. Lead on education matters.
General
Responsibility:

Clinical Responsibilities

To be an expert Practitioner who is responsible for the assessment of nursing staff in caring for patients as well as producing nursing advice to clinical areas.

1.1 To promote the delivery of nursing care that is based on the latest research and is deemed to constitute best practice.


1.2 There is an occasional requirement for prolonged concentration in the clinical role, managing highly complex patients and in the Practice Development Nurse role, meeting educational dema

When working clinically, the post holder will work at the level of Sister / Charge Nurse as defined by these competencies



2. Managerial Responsibilities


2.1 To have an active role in the development, carrying out and the regular monitoring of action plans/recommendations devised from audit results., specifically Aspects of Care audit

2.2 To ensure that the learning environment is evaluated as appropriate.

2.3 To actively participate in nursing research initiatives and its application into nursing care.

2.4 To have a working knowledge of resources/financial issues impacting on the service.

2.5 In conjunction with the CNO, Heads of Clinical Services and Senior Nursing Staff assist in ensuring that staff are professionally competent in the performance of their duties and that they receive relevant training and are assessed as competent before being asked to perform duties beyond their training or capabilities.

2.6 To support all levels of clinical practice, education and professional development with regard to all grades of qualified nursing staff and both pre and post registered students.

2.7 To co-ordinate the placement and provision of mentors and practice facilitators for pre-registration nurses and other staff in training or work experience.

2.8 To advise registered practitioners how they can maintain effective registration to meet the requirements of PREP.

2.9 With senior Nurse managers, undertake regular reviews to monitor the educational requirements of the nursing staff and take appropriate action as required.

2.10 To produce an annual summary of all training undertaken by nursing staff and document any relevant issues.

2.11 Link with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and other multidisciplinary development roles.

3.7 To maintain and develop own professional practice and competency keeping abreast of new developments, which may be clinical, educational or professional in nature.

3.8 To ensure that self and colleagues are made aware of the need to work within their own professional capacity and according to all Nursing Midwifery Council Guidelines at all times.

3.9 To attend regular meetings within departments to facilitate communication.


4. Educational and Development Responsibilities

4.1 Responsible for teaching and devising training and development programmes as a major part of the role.

4.2 Undertake the educational audit for the University colleagues to ensure quality in the clinical placement area for student nurses. Identify areas for development and devise action plans to achieve goals. Utilise student evaluations to assist in this.

4.3 Responsible for ensuring those recommendations from the Educational audit are implemented in a timely manner, in conjunction with the Senior Nurse managers

4.4 Develop a close working relationship with the link teacher from the University to ensure the student experience is positive and they are able to meet their learning outcomes.

4.5 To ensure that an effective and suitable learning environment is provided for all nursing staff and students.

4.6 Assist the Senior Nurse Managers with the provision of adequate supervision and mentorship for new staff.

Requirements PERSON SPECIFICATION

In order to perform this role to experienced worker standard the post holder will need:

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Registered Nurse Level 1*
• Relevant post graduate qualification in education
• Minimum of 5 years post registration experience*
• Previous involvement in practice development*
• Previous involvement in the planning/provision of nurse education*
