Position Summary: To perform a range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures as required throughout both the department and the hospital, managing patient priority as appropriate. This key role will see you providing a high quality diagnostic imaging service in a wide variety of clinical environments and to a wide range of patient presentations. You will have the clinical expertise to report your own scans. You will have the skills required to supervise and assist support staff in both the service delivery and their own development needs. You will also possess the skills needed to provide patients with empathy and emotional support.
General
Responsibility:

1.To facilitate the day to day management of all sonographers and assess their clinical effectiveness and professional development in line with Department polices.

2.To maintain a high quality, cost effective imaging service with a particular emphasis on patient need.

3.To liaise with clinical users outside the department on clinically based ultrasound issues in the absence of or on behalf of the Imaging services manager.

4.To be responsible for the day-to-day running and examination consistency of the clinical ultrasound service area of the Imaging department at the Portland hospital.

5.To supervise and support other more junior staff working in the department.

6.To perform a range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures as required, managing patient priority as appropriate.

7.To advise Radiologists of the technical capabilities of the radiographic equipment and to suggest appropriate sequences / images where appropriate to better demonstrate a variety of anatomy and common pathologies.

8.To constantly monitor protocols and to modify these where necessary, ensuring that the highest quality diagnostic images are obtained at all times.

9.To contribute effectively to the delivery of an effective and responsive Radiology service.

10.To supervise, assist and train a range of qualified and assistant staff in both the delivery of the service and their individual development needs.

11.To manage workflow and ensure all data inputs are recorded for both patient record integrity and statistical evaluation purposes.

12.To encourage the highest professional and technical standards in all staff using personal example and constructive supervision.

13.Demonstrate partnership in professional development issues maintaining a high level of technical and theoretical skills through personal CPD.

14.To be involved in the appraisal of sonographers within the Imaging department.

15.To participate in the Governance of the Department in areas including Risk Management, Health and Safety, Research and Audit activities.



Requirements Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc equivalent
MSc in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound
State Registration with the Health Professions Council
FMF accreditation to undertake NT scanning
