Night Duty Co- Ordinator

Position Summary: The post holder will act as deputy to the Clinical Night Manager and in her/his absence is responsible for clinical leadership and management of all services at night. He/she will ensure a high quality of clinical care and will work with the Clinical Night Manager and relevant Heads of Department to develop strategies for professional development. He/she will be visibly present in the clinical areas at night working opposite shifts to the Clinical Night Manager to ensure seamless and effective leadership.
General
Responsibility:

To work alongside the Clinical Night Manager promoting efficient and effective service delivery of a quality that meets the needs of all the service users.

Provide the highest possible standard of care for the patients and their families within the policy framework of the nursing and midwifery departments.

To promote the hospital departments and market the hospital services seeking opportunities for service level improvements and business growth liaising closely with the Clinical Night Manager and Heads of Departments to ensure a seamless 24 hour service is provided

Requirements •Valid part 1 NMC registration
•At least 5yrs post registration experience at management level in an acute setting
•Budgetary awareness
•Understanding of Child Protection issues
•Ability to make decisions regarding general management of the hospital at night
•Deal with enquiries/complaints and resolve as far as possible without referral.
•Respond and take the lead in emergency situations.
•Ability to manage organisational change
•Develop excellent inter-professional and interpersonal relationships with consultants, managers, staff and patients
•Co-ordinate all out of hour services.
•Support nursing staff and deal with personnel issues effectively.
•Communicate with external agencies on behalf of the Clinical Night Manager.
•To demonstrate care and dedication, always acting as an ambassador for The Portland Hospital.
•Ensure the smooth and safe operation of the hospital at night assessing and managing risk and reporting any untoward incidents to the Clinical Night Manager & Head of Department
•Maintain a high level of clinical practice, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
•Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained at night and plans put in place for this standard to be in place for the day ahead.
•Monitor and evaluate clinical practice against agreed standards.
•Maintain confidentiality of patient related and business information.
•Keep up to date with current procedures and work within the HCA legislative framework.
•Maintain accurate records
