Position Summary: 1. To have 24 hour, continuing responsibility, for the management of the designated floor within the hospital, providing a visible and authoritative presence in a clinical setting.
2. To provide and strengthen clinical leadership within defined areas by acting as a positive role model, who practices evidence-based care, to ensure high standards of clinical care.
3. To keep abreast of all developments in professional nursing with particular regard to healthcare standards within the Healthcare Commission.
4. To strive to fulfil the roles and competencies outlined below to the highest standards.
5. To be responsible for the management of all staff including healthcare assistants, and receptionist staff.
6. To undertake general administrative duties as and when required.
General
Responsibility:

2. Working collaboratively with other managers to implement and achieve the unit’s short and long term goals which are aligned with the organisational vision/mission.
3. Developing department’s long and short range goals aligned with vision/mission and strategies to achieve those goals.
4. Serving as clinical expert resource and involving other disciplines to achieve quality care and service.
5. Flexible, adapting to new ideas and models.
6. Actively seeking ongoing feedback to make necessary changes/adjustments.
7. Consistently modelling effective leadership through personal behaviour.
8. Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with hospital policies, applicable laws and regulations.
9. Championing lifelong personal and professional learning.

Requirements Registered Nurse level 1
Relevant post graduate clinical and management qualification/experience
Minimum of five years post graduate experience
Previous experience at Ward Sister level
Previous involvement in supporting nurse education
Previous involvement in recruitment and retention planning
Ability to manage staff effectively
Ability to recognise clinical and managerial problems taking appropriate action
Knowledge of dealing sensitively with complaints
Appreciation of the cultural needs of both patients and staff
Ability to manage resources efficiently within budgetary constraints and for a constantly changing workload
Skill in prioritising workload and delegating as appropriate
Good verbal and written communication skills
