Position Summary: Experienced intensive care Senior Staff Nurses required for a busy nine bed general/neuro ICU. Care of patients requiring ventilatory support,
invasive and non invasive. Patients in multi organ failure, post operative neuro-surgical and spinal cases. Familiarity with CRRT. Will work as part
of a team and report to the senior nurse in charge. Will require leadership skills to shift coordinate a busy nine bedded ICU. To carry the pager as
the ICU 1st Responder for emergency events in the hospital.

Must have relevant ICU experience and have completed an Intensive Care course. ALS Course desirable.
General
Responsibility:

To demonstrate good clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions
Assess, plan and deliver care to meet patient and family needs
Undertake extended roles such as IV cannulation, phlebotomy
Contribute to research based care and other practice development initiatives
Contribute to the setting of clinical standards, policy and procedure
Promote good communication channels amongst staff enhancing good team work
To maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
To deputise for senior staff in their absence, demonstrating leadership and management
Supervise and direct junior staff, promoting a learning environment
Respect and ensure patients privacy and confidentiality
Ensure all patient charges are captured
Chaperoning and assisting medical staff
Check and report faulty equipment
Fully document all aspects of patient care and maintain accurate records
Provide patients and families with information regarding care and management of their condition
Maintain stock levels of supplies/equipment
To carry out nursing duties as requested by senior staff

Requirements KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Registered Nurse Level 1
UKCC Registration and PREP requirements
ENB course/experience relevant to specialist area desirable
Phlebotomy training desirable
Knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures
Health and Safety training
Lifting and Handling

PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY
Early recognition of clinical problems and report or take appropriate action
Deal with enquiries/complaints and refer as necessary
Dealing with discrepancies on supply issues
To appreciate and adapt to cultural needs
Accommodate emergency admissions
Prioritise workload, delegating as appropriate

Liaison with consultants, staff , patients and visitors
Liaison with other internal and external departments
To demonstrate tact and sensitivity and an understanding of individual needs

Support and act as role model to junior staff

To take responsibility for own practice, in accordance with UKCC and hospital guidelines/protocols

Support the development of junior staff
Familiarise self with equipment being used, to ensure skilled and safe operation
