Position Summary: DUTIES OF MTO – Endoscopy Technician
(Following a training and assessment programme)

Clinical

1. To maintain a clean & safe environment at all times in:
• Clinical area
• Sluices
• Store cupboards
2. To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
3. To be aware of cultural differences.
4. To complete daily stores order of stock consumables and non-stock items when required.
5. To be responsible for checking all equipment for sterilisation date and sterility.
6. To clean & tidy all gratnells once on week.
7. To help the Endoscopy team with quick changeover cases.

Organisational
1. To liaise with relevant departments to ensure endoscopes are available.
2. To report all accidents and incidents to a senior staff member.

Educational
1. To undertake training to support any task allocated within the area, e.g.: water testing, and to be assessed and certified appropriately.

2. To undertake mandatory training, manual handling, fire, and BLS once a year.

General:
1. To be aware of Hospital and Departmental Policies.
2. To carry out work in a safe working environment in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act and EC Directives.
General
Responsibility:

FUNCTIONS OF MTO ENDOSCOPY TECHNICIAN
These are the functions an Endoscopy Technician is expected to perform following a training and assessment programme.

1. To maintain accurate records of endoscope processing
2. To carry out required water testing.
3. To carry out daily testing of auto washer disinfector.
4. To coordinate preventative maintenance of auto washer disinfector and log faults.
5. To process endoscopes and prioritise requirements for Endoscopy and other departments.
6. To facilitate training to ensure awareness of decontamination procedures in line with BSG and HTM2030 regulations.
7. To prepare and check Endoscopy is ready for procedures.
8. To be aware of manual handling techniques to ensure safety for patients and staff.
9. To know where all specialised equipment is located, and how to clean it.
10. To understand the principles of stock rotation:

• Ensure ‘oldest’ stock is used first
• Replenish used stock to designated level
• Check single-pack items for ‘shelf-life’

11. To document all consumables used during procedures

To be aware of limitations of role and the importance of adhering to functions outlined in this job description.

• Some understandin.g of how to respond to ‘consumer needs’.
