Position Summary: To facilitate the day to day management of all radiographers, sonographers, medical secretaries, administration staff and assistants in the Department, their clinical effectiveness and professional development in line with Department polices.
To maintain a high quality, cost effective radiographic service with a particular emphasis on patient need.
To liaise with clinical users outside the department on clinically based issues in the absence of or on behalf of the Imaging services manager.
To be responsible for the day-to-day running and examination consistency of the clinical service area of the Imaging department at the Portland hospital.
To supervise and support other more junior staff working in the department.
To perform a range of diagnostic procedures as required throughout the department, managing patient priority as appropriate.
To advise Radiologists of the technical capabilities of the radiographic equipment and to suggest appropriate sequences / images where appropriate to better demonstrate a variety of anatomy and common pathologies.
To constantly monitor protocols and to modify these where necessary, ensuring that the highest quality diagnostic images are obtained at all times.
To contribute effectively to the delivery of an effective and responsive Radiology service.
To supervise, assist and train a range of qualified and assistant staff in both the delivery of the service and their individual development needs.
To manage workflow and ensure all data inputs are recorded for both patient record integrity and statistical evaluation purposes.
To encourage the highest professional and technical standards in all staff using personal example and constructive supervision.
Demonstrate partnership in professional development issues maintaining a high level of technical and theoretical skills through personal CPD.
To be involved in the appraisal of radiographers, sonographers and other staff within the Imaging department.
To participate in the Governance of the Department in areas including Risk Management, Health and Safety, Research and Audit activities.
Requirements Post Graduate Qualification in Diagnostic Ultrasound (DMSU / MSc)
HPC Registration
Post Graduate Management Qualification would be preferable but not essential
FMF accreditation
Evidence of CPD
