Position Summary: • To assess, develop, implement and evaluate the care needs of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures
• Provide the Consultant with skilled assistance.
• To ensure all flexible endoscopes are processed, stored, used and tracked and checked in accordance with current regulations (HTM2030 & DB(2005))
• The post-holder will actively contribute to the maintenance of an environment that is conducive to the delivery and promotion of a high standard of patient care and the establishment of good communications and relationships between staff, doctors, patients, relatives and visitors.
General
Responsibility:

• To deliver a consistently high standard of patient care utilising evidence based practice.
• To work without direct supervision according to organisational policies and in accordance with HCA Code of Conduct.
• To supervise and support staff in delivering appropriate patient care.
• To have an in-depth knowledge of related professional issues.
• To have the relevant endoscopy experience for the role.
• To have good communication skills (inc. verbal, written, non-verbal)
• To be able to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
• To demonstrate evidence of good interpersonal skills.
• To have a desire for knowledge coupled with an awareness of ones and others limitations.
• To have evidence of continuing professional development
• To be able to discuss relevant/current professional issues.
• To have evidence of management experience.
• To be proficient in a wide range of skills:
• Ensure the environment meets the safety needs of the patient.
• Manage an endoscopy list efficiently and effectively.
• Have the expertise to minimise cross-infection during procedure and processing.
• To be proficient in all aspects of care of the sedated patient.
• To know how to use specialist equipment required during endoscopy.
• To have a sound clinical knowledge based on education and experience in order to:
• Care for patients before, during and after endoscopy procedure.
• Teach, develop and supervise students and new members of the team.
• Prioritise work of self and others appropriately.
• To record all items used during procedure on the patient’s profile screen on Meditech, and document details in Register including any specimens taken.
• To ensure all specimens are handled, labelled and stored correctly.
• To ensure all relevant information is entered onto the Endoscopy reporting software.

Requirements Essential:
RGN Level 1 (current registration with NMC)
At least 2 years experience working in a GI endoscopy unit.
Desirable:
Associated endoscopy qualification (ENB 906 or equivalent)
Relevant course or equivalent experience relating to the decontamination of flexible endoscopes.
