HCA International are therefore pleased to introduce an exciting new opportunity for recently qualified nurses.
The specialist graduate programme started in May 2009 with the aim to provide recently qualified nurses the opportunity to consolidate their training through a two year specialist branch programme.
During the two years, the graduate nurse will be provided with a unique learning opportunity to develop into an expert clinical practitioner with advanced clinical skills in their speciality of their choice.
On completion of the programme the nurse will gain a Thames Valley University Continual Practice and Professional Development award of 20 credits at level 6 in Delivering Quality Care through work based learning

The TVU Accreditation process
Module Title: Delivering Quality Care through work based Learning
The aim of this module is to enable the practitioner to draw together and integrate learning from in service training. This module will help demonstrate how training and educational updating experiences has improved both personal and professional practice. The module learning objectives are to stimulate practical, creative and analytical thinking, a combination that leads to utilising cognitive, affective and behavioural skills. The module’s process will promote patient focused quality care through critical reflection and application of learning to clinical practice.
The Specialist Graduate Programme Objectives
The Graduate Nurse Program Programme will:
- Provide a structured programme of support for recently qualified practitioners
- Facilitate integration into a new practice setting
- Introduce HCA policies and procedures
- Introduce learning opportunities available locally and within the HCA Clinical Education Centre
- Enable the practitioner to develop confidence and competence in their new role.
- Provide access to experienced nurses for supervision and instruction.
- Provide peer support and mentoring
- Introduce specific workplace requirements and assist the graduate nurse to achieve competency in those fields.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE –OVERVIEW
- Positions are offered full-time.
- The program is of 24 months in duration.
- The program structure offers six specialist branches over a 24 month period with 4 rotations of 6 months in each inpatient and outpatient setting.
- Recruitment is twice yearly in May and November
